The North Carolina Drought Management Advisory Council has classified almost all of Watauga County and Avery County as class D0, meaning that we are

Abnormally Dry.

D0 - Abnormally Dry

The NCDMAC requests all water users in the counties that are indicated on the US Drought Monitor Map as suffering from Abnormally Dry (D0) conditions to closely monitor their water supply source for diminished capacity and take precautions to prepare for impending drought conditions.

  • Review and be prepared to implement your Water Shortage Response Plans at the appropriate time.
  • Participate, as appropriate, in regional and local coordination for the management of water resources.
  • Stay informed on drought conditions and advisories (www.ncdrought.org).

All of the Town of Seven Devils is located in the affected area. See map below.

Warning - Paving Scam - Warning
Citizens, please be advised that an asphalt paving scam is taking place in the High Country, and it has arrived in Seven Devils. One citizen has already been approached with the scam. The scam uses names of paving companies that you would recognize, so people think they are doing business with legitimate, local companies. If you are approached by anyone offering a "paving deal," please contact our Public Safety Department at (828) 963-6760. Do not sign any contracts. ONLY DO BUSINESS WITH COMPANIES YOU CONTACT DIRECTLY.

SafetyFest

Our annual SafetyFest - 2010 was a great success and everyone seemed to have a wonderful time. Thank you to all who attended, donated, and volunteered, and especially to the Public Safety Committee for their seemingly tireless efforts organizing, soliciting sponsors, soliciting donations, and just spending lots of their personal time making sure SafetyFest 2010 was a success. Especially engaged in the organization and all other facets of the event were Kay and George Ehlinger, Kay and Brad Lambert, and Phyllis Miller, with many others.

By the way - Did you eat some BBQ? It was fantastic. A big thank you to our very own Chef Mark Virginia who spent the entire night cooking the pork. Special thanks also go out to Kevin Aldridge who helped with the festivities all day on July 3rd.

 Storm Debris
Removal

The contract with FEMA and our ice storm debris removal contractor has expired. Any additional debris removal will be handled in accordance with the provisions set forth in Town policy governing traditional debris removal. Our Public Works Department will remove debris for individuals who complete their own work without the benefit of a contractor, subject to a one truck-load limit. You will need to make a specific request to Town Hall so that we can issue a Work Order to implement this procedure.
